Brands

A Brand in Actualog is a normalized identifier used to keep brand references consistent across products, catalogs, imports, and search.

Brands solve a common industrial data problem: the same brand appears in many forms:

  • spelling variants,
  • transliterations,
  • abbreviations,
  • different writing systems.

Actualog treats a brand as a managed entity, not free text.

Where brands are used

Brands are used in:

  • brand-identified products (products that must carry a brand)
  • catalogs (filtering and presentation)
  • imports (matching supplier feeds)
  • search and deduplication signals

Brand names, languages, and aliases

A brand can have:

  • names in multiple languages
  • aliases (comma-separated variants)

Aliases are used to:

  • match import files and supplier feeds,
  • improve search,
  • reduce duplicate brand creation.

Company brand list

In a company workspace, you manage the company’s brand list in Products → Brands & trademarks.

Best practice:

  • keep the list clean,
  • add aliases for real-world variations,
  • avoid creating near-duplicate brands.

Help topic: Brand owner (Legal Manufacturer) (Markdown)

Brand owner is a company role that means the organization is the legal owner of the brand (often the legal manufacturer responsible for compliance, trademarks, and official product definitions).

This role matters because brand-owned product data is usually expected to be:

  • authoritative,
  • complete,
  • stable across markets,
  • suitable for reuse by customers, distributors, and AI-driven discovery.

Brand owner vs manufacturer vs distributor

  • Brand owner: owns the brand and defines the official product identity.
  • Manufacturer: produces goods (may be the same as brand owner, or a contract manufacturer).
  • Distributor: resells and publishes offers, often adding commercial and logistics context.

Actualog supports these realities by separating:

  • company role in a category
  • from product-level ownership and publishing

How it affects product data in Actualog

When a company acts as a Brand owner for a category, it typically means:

  • products in that category should use a brand from the company’s brand list
  • brand information should be consistent across catalogs and channels
  • the company’s product data becomes a reliable reference point for partners and buyers

Best practice:

  • if your company is a brand owner, maintain your brands carefully and use aliases for import matching.
